About Janine Purvis

Carla Janine Purvis, known as Janine, runs When Ready Counseling, her own practice in Evansville, Indiana. She sees clients in person in the Evansville area and by telehealth in Indiana, Florida, Arkansas and Vermont.
She has spent more than twenty years in social work, mental health and addictions.
Gambling counseling has been part of her practice from the start, alongside addictions and substance use counseling. She is an ICGC-I certified gambling counselor and works with CRAFT, a method for helping the families of people with addictions.
Approach
Her approach starts from the idea that much of what troubles us is connected to the way we think. Thoughts, beliefs and coping skills are learned. When the lessons are negative, people may turn to addictive behavior, codependency or excessive worry. Challenging and reframing that thinking can change how we feel and how we behave.
Many of her clients are adults living with high anxiety. Most of her work draws on cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness, and with each client she chooses an evidence-based approach together: CBT, DBT, mindfulness, EMDR or Cognitive Processing Therapy.
